Woody Harrelson is confirmed to join the young Han Solo Star Wars movie.
The Hollywood Reporter noted on Jan. 3 that Harrelson was in talks to join the film as the young Solo’s mentor figure, which sounds very similar to his role as Haymitch Abernathy in the Hunger Games franchise.
“We couldn’t be more excited to work with an artist with as much depth and range as Woody,” directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller said in a statement. “His ability to find both humor and pathos, often in the same role, is truly unique. He is also very good at ping pong.”
With his dry sarcasm and general apathy, Haymitch had a surprising amount in common with Han Solo, and might be just the type of role model who made Han the scoundrel we met in Star Wars: A New Hope.
Disney and Lucasfilm’s latest outing in the galaxy far, far away stars Alden Ehrenreich, Donald Glover and Emilia Clarke. The untitled project is set to be released in May 2018.
