Can you live without Facebook? Yes, you can. And life will go on just like the days before Facebook came into your life and sucked up all your attention.
This week’s MashTalk is hosted by Tech Editor Pete Pachal, with commentary from Senior Tech Correspondent Raymond Wong and Tech News Intern Freia Lobo.
Our very own Tech Correspondent Jack Morse says he deleted his personal Facebook account years ago, which has let him reconnect with real people about real news in real life. In his essay, he counts all the reasons why you should also delete your Facebook account.
With Facebook so deeply ingrained in our lives now, it may seem like an impossible task (FOMO anyone?), but it’s really not. If you’re feeling overwhelmed by Facebook, just delete it. It’ll be good for your health.
Next, we discuss Amazon’s new Echo Show, the company’s latest Alexa-powered gadget. The Echo Show’s marquee feature is its 7-inch screen. Does Amazon have too many Echos in its lineup? Is a screen really necessary? What about its questionable boxy design? Ugly? Cool? And will Apple obliterate the Echo Show with its own Siri-powered competitor?
Lastly, Apps Reporter Karissa Bell calls in from Seattle to share her thoughts on Microsoft’s Build developer conference. It was a bit of a snooze this year, but the tech giant did show off a few cool things including the next version of Windows 10, Cortana skills, Windows Story Remix, Mixed Reality, and a video indexer that can analyze videos and pick out feelings based on what’s being said and the facial expressions of people in the video. It’s wild!
